Indian Philosophy
Philosophy in India is essentially spiritual. IT is the intense spirituality of India, and not any great political structure or social organisation that it has developed, that has enabled it to resist the ravages of time and accidents of history. The Greek, Scythian, Perisan, Mogul, Frech and Egnlish have by turn attempted to suppress it, yet it has its head held high. A great summary of Indian Philosophy as a whole can be found in Indian ex-President S. Radhakrishnan's book Indian Philosophy, volumes 1 and 2.
Brahma Sutra
The following is my own intepretation of the Brahma Sutra:
The Brahma Sutra is divided into four Adhyayas or chapters and each chapter consists of four quarters. Each quater consists of several groups of aphorism or sutras called Adhikaranas or topical sections. Each of the Adhikaranas consist of several sutras and some have only one.
The first chapter is called the Samanvayadhyaya which means the co-ordination and integration of all the passages of the major upanishads. Infact it deals also with the most controversial parts of the upanishads and explains then in great detail.
